Don’t miss our birthday party.
We will be celebrating our 70th.
Take a look at this photograph of Stan, one of our volunteers, playing our barrel organ to raise much needed funds in the Centre of a busy Dewsbury.
This picture was found whilst looking through our archives to prepare a display for our Platinum Jubilee which we will celebrate later this year.
We will look back on the formation of the League back in 1952 and how it has developed to what it is today.
If you have any memories or photos to share of Howlands, please let us know.
We wish to thank the Co-op for their extremely generous donation of £9,727.43.
This is an amazing amount of money to receive and will help us a great deal in the work that we do.
We were linked to the Leeds Road Co-op and we must thank all their customer and the Co-op points system for support.
Special thanks to Jean Sengalow the Co-op Ambassador for her help in the process.
Join us on the 10th November between 9.30am and 2.00pm and sample the delights on offer.
From homemade gifts, to mince pies and a tombola, there will be plenty to keep your interest.
Take a look at this photo of a crib knitted for the Centre by one of our supporters.
If you like hand made creations like this you can buy similar sets from one of our stalls – now wouldn’t that be a unique Christmas decoration!
The fair will be our first big fundraiser for nearly two years so we are aiming to make it a great one!
Tickets are only £2 each and include a tea or coffee and mince pie.
Please come and celebrate the festive season with us at Howlands and help us raise funds so we can keep our doors open into our seventieth year. Can’t wait to see you!

We are so pleased to share with you this picture that perfectly illustrates that Howlands is back in business.
Isn’t it just fantastic to see members together again participating in those much loved activities.
We are hoping this is one of many more busy afternoons to be had at Howlands.
Come down and join us.
It would be great to see some new faces.
We are very please to announce our annual general meeting will be taking lace this year.
All are welcome to join us on Friday the 12th November 2021 at 1.30 p.m.
See you there.

Read this poem by Michael Pickles who has been a member at Howlands for several years.
We think it’s really rather special not to mention the wonderful drawing he has developed.
Once Common, Always Common
I’m going to stay here,
Right here.
Here where I am,
Sitting at the kitchen window ;
Determined, absolutely determined,
That I’m going to see a wren.
No much to ask for, is it ?
Surely not much at all ?
Not a Golden Eagle.
Not a Marabou Stork.
Not a Bird of Paradise.
Not an Andean Condor.
Just a Jenny Wren.
Just a Jenny Wren.
I used to see them all the time.
Common as muck they were,
Common as I am ;
Back in the Sixties.
I am still Common.
Come along to Howlands and take part in activities, or just chat to likeminded people. You’ll be supported to follow your own interests, and the best bit, you’ll be in great company too.
