HOWLANDS SEEKING A NEW HOME
Did you see our appeal in the Dewsbury Press last week?
The Dewsbury & District League of Friendship is appealing to the people of Dewsbury for help.
We desperately require temporary accommodation to continue to provide a community hub for people looking for companionship and friendship through events, courses, and social gatherings.
As many of you know we have been incredibly fortunate to have been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Building Communities Fund to pay for a complete refurbishment of our building, The Howlands on School Street Dewsbury.
However the refurbishment is expected to take 20 weeks to complete, leaving us without a base to continue the valuable service we offer across the District.
The Dewsbury & District League of Friendship chairman, Tom Ellis, says: “Building work is due to start at the end of March but unfortunately we have a minimal budget and haven’t been able to source suitable temporary accommodation. For many the Howlands is a real lifeline so we’re really hoping we will be able to continue to support those members. As you can image we’re very concerned about our predicament and would like to appeal to the generosity of the people of Dewsbury for help.”
If you can help please contact Tom Ellis or Deborah Hall on 01924 463693 or email [email protected]

We’ve been mentioned in the Dewsbury Press!
Read our mention The Press newspaper which reported on four Batley schools taking part in an art project alongside Batley Rotary Club.
Children from St Mary’s Primary, Lydgate Junior and Infant, Batley Girls High and Upper Batley High School were asked to work on a piece of art for our centre.
The unveiling of the artwork was attended by the Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Jim Dodds, Rotary D1040 Governor Philip Poole, along with approximately 100 Rotarians and members of Howlands.
