Pen-y-ghent the wrong way round? No trouble for our two legends!

Well it turned out nice again! Thankfully the weather was kind to our intrepid adventurers as they set out to conquer the mountainous terrains of North Yorkshire. This would prove to be much tougher than the arduous morning walks up the killer hills of Dewsbury and Earlsheaton!

Deborah and Becky in true Howlands-style took on this monumental hill the wrong way round, according to most of the people they passed on the way! This was intentional, though, to increase the difficulty of the challenge. For those who know Pen-y-Ghent, it has a pretty difficult and almost vertical part to the climb where it takes some fleet of foot to work your way up, or down as our ladies decided to do it.

No challenge is too tough for our dynamic duo. They completed the climb/descent in 2 hours and 46 minutes.

We are grateful to all those who have sponsored Deborah and Becky and those who kindly agreed to transfer sponsorship from Mark’s planned run to this event. Watch this space. We will reveal our fundraising total once we have counted the pennies!

Well done, Deborah and Becky. You deserve the pint you got at the end of this. Any further donations can be made through our Justgiving page here https://checkout.justgiving.com/c/3463741 or via our website (find the donation buttons on the homepage).

An amazing £905.00 raised for Howlands

Last month Christine Sykes, who is one of our class room assistants, organised a social evening at Old Bank Working Men’s Club in aid of Howlands.
Well over 100 people attended to be entertained by singers Tony Styles and Linda Senior.
Linda, who is Christine’s sister-in-law and a former professional singer, is in the UK on holiday from Australia, and as soon as she heard about the evening she volunteered to take part.
Everyone had a great time and an amazing £905.00 was raised for Howlands.
Many thanks to Old Bank WMC and their staff for their help and to Tony Styles and Linda for their very professional entertainment.
But specials thanks to Christine for making the evening such a great success.
